Our Commercial Lending department is based out of our Main Office located at 221 Commercial Street in Provincetown, MA. While the incumbent will be based out of the Main Office, s/he will transition to focusing on expanding new business in the lower Cape region.

Because Seamen’s Bank remains a relatively small Community Bank, it is expected that all employees will contribute above and beyond the duties that are listed in any job description or posting. In addition to the duties listed below, all employees are expected to perform any function necessary within the scope of expertise and authority to provide the highest level of customer service and to increase the productivity of the Bank. It is expected that all employees will continually strive to improve, by educational resources made available, especially in regard to security and compliance procedures.

Summary:  The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for initiating, maintaining and growing commercial banking relationships by generating commercial loans and making referrals to other banking services. Additional duties include managing an existing commercial loan portfolio and understanding potential growth or risk with the portfolio and performing collection and workout activities as necessary. This position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate and work well with large groups as well as individually as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops commercial loan prospects from current customers, referral leads, and other sources to include both commercial and commercial real estate loans.
  • Contacts prospective customers to present information on available commercial loan services.
  • Initiates digital loan applications from the Commercial LOS platform and works with applicants to complete the application process.
  • Collects and analyzes financial information and other related data in order to determine the credit worthiness of the borrower within the parameters of the Bank’s loan policies.
  • Establishes and negotiates the terms under which credit will be granted to comply with loan underwriting guidelines.
  • Works with the Credit Analysts to underwrite and approve within delegated lending authority or submits to appropriate authority for approval.
  • Works with Commercial Loan Processor/Closer to process and expedite proper completion of all documentation necessary to close commercial loan originations.
  • Manages progress of construction loan projects including performing inspections prior to authorizing disbursement of funds.
  • Manages assigned commercial lines of credit including authorizing advances and annually recommending whether to renew.
  • Remains current on the lending standards and requirements of the Small Business Administration (SBA) and evaluates potential lending partnership opportunities.
  • Participates in various civic and business organization events and activities to develop business network and favorable image for the bank.
  • Keeps abreast of local municipal and political developments, real estate markets and economic conditions.
  • Understand and maintain a thorough knowledge of the bank’s credit policies and compliance requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of laws and regulations as they pertain to commercial lending.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field
  • 3 years commercial lending experience preferred
  • Strong background in credit analysis and underwriting and a team-focused attitude
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements in commercial lending
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to work off business hours to attend networking events and handle meetings

Skills and Abilities:
 
  • Working knowledge of commercial lending, commercial real estate markets, and collection and workout procedures.
  • Working knowledge of bank products and services.
  • Familiarity with analyzing financial statements.
  • Strong sales, negotiation and networking skills.
  • Strong verbal skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and other forms of written communications as may be required.
  • Analytical and reasoning ability and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Detailed-oriented, with strong organizational and time management skills, and a positive attitude and commitment to outstanding service.
  • Responsible and independent worker with strong interpersonal skills that interacts well with other employees, customers, and the general public.

  • Proficient computer skills and ability to navigate and utilize Commercial LOS systems.

Pay range: $95,000 - $135,000 annually
